What is a good age to start martial arts training?
We believe that martial arts training has benefits for every age! In our Mi Yama Ryu Kids program (ages 5-12), we focus on developing listening skills and appropriate classroom behavior fun and playful.) The martial arts training offers a great learning atmosphere. Beyond practicing self-defense techniques, skills against bullying, and maintaining or improving physical fitness, our students develop discipline, respect, self-esteem, goal-setting skills, and confidence.
For teens and adults (ages 13+), martial arts training is a great way to improve fitness and flexibility, learn self-defense skills, grow confidence, develop discipline, and release anxiety and stress. There’s no such thing as the perfect age to get started. Raven Self-Defense Academy is always open to new members of all ages. We will find the right program for you!
How many times per week can I attend classes?
If you sign up for classes with us at Raven Self Defense Academy you can attend as many times per week as you like. We encourage our students to attend at least two classes per week, but we also have some members who attend up to five classes per week! Basically, it’s your decision how often you want to train. You may only attend one day per week, which is a great option for beginners, very young children, or students who have limited time to dedicate to their training.
Do I have a specific schedule?
No, you are not locked in a schedule at Raven Self Defense Academy . All of our classes are offered throughout the week. Students can pick and choose whatever classes fit into their schedule each week. There is no need to make reservations or call ahead to save a spot in the classes, you just show up and enjoy your selected class. However, if you miss a session and want to catch up on the learned skills, you may simply come another day that the class is offered. We provide you with ultimate flexibility and the possibility to make your very own schedule week by week. You can also log on to our Online University or watch our live private Facebook broadcast of the classes.
Can I take martial arts classes if I’m not in good shape, not very athletic, or if I don’t have any experience?
Absolutely! Don’t be afraid; everyone has to start somewhere! Martial arts is a great way to improve your health and overall physical fitness, no matter what the starting point is. Our programs allow students to go step by step, level by level, at their own pace. Our programs are ideal for people of all ages and skill levels as well as those who want to improve their physical shape. At Raven Self Defense Academy, everyone has a unique journey according to their needs!
Can I do a trial class to see if I like martial arts?
Yes, for sure! To find out if martial arts is good for you and your family, we have a
special offer. Our free trial intro lesson/ class is perfect to learn about our program, meeting our team of experts, and getting a first impression of our school.

We would be more than happy to schedule an appointment with you, give you the chance to meet Kaiso, and take you on a tour through the Dojo. Is there anything else I should know?
The best way to learn is by doing! In order to gain the full experience of a class, you should leave all prejudgements behind and open your mind. Martial arts offer way more than you might imagine. Without a doubt, the most important aspect of martial arts is the sense of community developed within our schools. The relationship between students and instructors is the key. Martial arts can be challenging sometimes and besides your own willpower, you need people around you that keep on pushing you along your way.
